What Does TPMS Mean?

If you are a current or new Honda driver, the acronym “TPMS” may be something you’ve heard or seen more often. So, what does TPMS mean? What are the benefits of it? TPMS stands for Tire Pressure Monitoring System, and this technology was designed to keep you safer and more informed of your tire condition as you cruise throughout Minot. Read on below to learn more about how TPMS keeps you up-to-date on your tire health, and what to do if the TPMS telltale light illuminates on your dash!

Tire Pressure Monitoring System Features

What does TPMS mean? Tire Pressure Monitoring System. What does the Tire Pressure Monitoring System do? TPMS technology on your Honda continually monitors and compares the rolling radius and rotational characteristics of each wheel and tire whenever you are driving throughout Bismarck and beyond to determine if one or more tires are significantly under-inflated. If this low-tire pressure is detected, the TPMS indicator will illuminate. The indicator is an icon that looks like an exclamation point surrounded by parentheses.

What to Do if Your TPMS Indicator Illuminates

If your TPMS indicator illuminates, it’s communicating to you that your tires are not properly inflated. If this occurs, conduct the following steps:

  •  Stop your vehicle in a safe place, or get to a Devils Lake area pump station with tire pressure measuring
  • Check the tire pressure if you have a tire pressure gauge, or use the provided measure at the station
  • Inflate your tires to the proper PSI. This can find the level indicated in your Honda owner’s manual or on the label posted on your driver’s side door jamb.

What Can Cause the TPMS to Illuminate

Sometimes, the following additional reasons can cause your Tire Pressure Monitoring System to alert you:

  • If you’re currently using a compact spare tire
  • If there is a heavier and uneven load on the tires, such as when towing a trailer throughout %target_city_3%%
  • If you are using snow chains in wintry conditions

Note that these do not necessarily mean you need to inflate tire pressure. Your Tire Pressure Monitoring System is simply detecting these non-emergency changes. If you suspect something else is causing your TPMS to illuminate, our Ryan Honda of Minot service center can always inspect it for you!
