How to Connect Apple CarPlay® or Android Auto™

2020 Honda Insight Touring
Is Apple CarPlay® not connecting in your Honda vehicle no matter what you try? This game-changing technology can make rides through Bismarck in your Honda CR-V or Pilot more enjoyable than ever. Read the guide below from Ryan Honda of Minot to troubleshoot why Apple CarPlay is not connecting so you can get back to enjoying the drive ASAP!

Why is Apple CarPlay® Not Connecting?

Your Honda vehicle supports CarPlay and you have a iPhone 5 or newer — so why is Apple CarPlay® not Connecting? If CarPlay® doesn’t activate automatically or your iPhone isn’t detected, take the following steps:

  • Make sure that your country or region supports CarPlay.
  • Make sure that your iPhone has the latest version of iOS.
  • Make sure that your CarPlay stereo is using the latest firmware from the car manufacturer.
  • Make sure that Siri is on.
  • Make sure that CarPlay isn’t restricted. On the touchscreen, check that CarPlay is enabled by navigating to Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions, and tap Allowed Apps.

Troubleshooting Your Apple CarPlay® Connection

If none of the above solve the problem, try the following:

  • Restart your iPhone and your car.
  • Redo your CarPlay setup by navigating to Settings > General > CarPlay. Tap your car, then tap Forget This Car.
  • If using a wired connection, try using a different USB cable and a different USB port.
  • If you use a wireless connection, make sure that Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are enabled under Settings > Wi-Fi and Settings > Bluetooth.

Apple CarPlay® Setup

After you figure out the reason for Apple CarPlay not connecting, you may need to set up Apple CarPlay again. Here’s how:

  1. Check your owner’s manual or contact a Devils Lake-area Honda service center to see if Apple CarPlay tech is available in your region.
  2. Start your vehicle and ensure that Siri is on.
  3. If you’re using a wired connection, find the CarPlay® icon and plug your iPhone into a USB port.
  4. If your connection is wireless, set the radio to wireless or Bluetooth® mode.
  5. Press and hold the “voice command” button on your steering wheel.
  6. On your iPhone, go to Settings > General > CarPlay. Tap available cars and select your vehicle.
